We want to empower New Zealanders to join us on the journey to reduce the impacts of worldwide food waste, while also helping our Kiwi community to eat seasonally, more sustainably and affordably all year round.
We rescue fruit & veg that doesn’t always meet the strict criteria for on-selling at main retailers, and we give it a new lease at life - in Kiwi kitchens across Aotearoa . No longer will crooked carrots, tarnished tomatoes, gangly green beans and blemished butternut squash be considered the outcasts of the produce world!
In addition to rescuing these irregular, delicious goods, another major reason why we collect produce is due to surplus at the farm. For NZ growers it’s essential to regularly clear their fields to continue harvesting, this excess fruit & veg needs to go to make way for fresh, seasonal crops - that’s where we come in.
Some beloved fruit & veg might be considered too small, too big, slightly misshapen, odd-looking, or have a few marks… but we guarantee it’s all still tasty, un-beet-ably fresh and good to eat! We consider this little gang of produce the “Wonky” few and because we’re always rooting (pun intended) for the underdog, we want to see every piece of delicious fruit & veg reach its full potential.
Ordinarily, this misshapen, excess produce would end up as food loss, contributing to the alarming statistic that one-third of the world’s food that’s produced never gets eaten - not on Wonky’s watch.
We collect the Wonky produce from local growers (the real MVPs) and within 48 hours it is sorted, packed and will turnip straight to the door of our incredible customers! Because our approach shortens the supply chain, freshness is guaranteed.
