Just like our fruit and veg, our flowers are top quality – they’ve just been overlooked.
Some might be a bit too tall, too short, too bendy, or simply too many for retailers to take. Others miss out due to last-minute order changes, seasonal oversupply, or tiny cosmetic quirks.
They’re still beautiful, fresh, and full of life – they just didn’t fit the narrow mould of what “perfect” looks like in the flower trade. We think that makes them even more special.
Our flower food contains a simple but effective mix of:
It’s the floral version of a power smoothie: keeps your stems hydrated, energised, and looking their best.
You sure can – but we’re not quite set up for traditional one-off gifting just yet, so it takes a little workaround.
If you’d like to gift a single bunch, the easiest way is to:
Or, if you’re after a longer-lasting surprise, you can simply update your own subscription’s address to send a box their way.
We also offer gift cards for all Wonky products – perfect if you want to let them choose their own delivery date.

We’re still building out our proper gifting options, so it’s not 100% seamless (yet!) – but our customer service team is here 7 days a week and always happy to help make it happen.
No need for anything fancy – just something clean and sturdy. A good rule of thumb? Pick a vase that’s about half the height of your tallest stem. This gives your flowers support while still letting them do their thing. As the days go on and you trim your stems down, you can move them into a shorter vase or spread the joy with mini arrangements in jars, bottles or bud vases. Perfect for pops of colour on bedside tables, bathrooms, or gifted to a pal! We’re also putting together a full blog post with vase tips, shapes, and styling inspo – from classic to creative. Watch this space!
Just the basics! You’ll need:
That’s it. No fancy florist gear required – just fresh stems and a little creative flair.
When they arrive, your flowers might look a little tired – totally normal after a big journey. Give them a fresh snip, pop them in cool water with their flower food, and they’ll perk up within the day. Most stems should last around 10 days, depending on the variety. To keep your blooms going strong:
It all depends on the season and what is available from the grower. Our flowers follow the same rhythm as our veg – growing with the weather and changing throughout the year. Our grower, Burwood, is known for their chrysanthemums (or Chrissys, if you’re in the know), so you’ll likely spot a few – in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. Beyond that? You might see a bold dahlia, a cheerful sunflower, or a delicate lisianthus in the mix. But no two boxes are ever quite the same – and that’s half the fun.
We’ll get you started with some Petal Pointers in your first box – a few simple steps to help your blooms look their best. Think: a fresh snip, a little tidy, and layering in blooms by size and shape. But if you’re ready to really unleash your inner florist, we’ve put together a step-by-step arranging guide on the blog - complete with tips, tricks.
Most of our flowers are grown right here in Aotearoa, in the Waikato, by our long-time grower mates at Burwood – one of New Zealand’s biggest (and most modest) flower producers. They know their stems. At times, especially during winter when local supply dips, you might find imported blooms in the mix. These are still quality stems, often at risk of going to waste due to how perishable they are. Wherever they’re from, we’re all about rescuing what’s too good to go – and keeping your vase full of feel-good florals.
Each box includes a minimum of 17 seasonal stems and foliage, fresh from our grower in the Waikato. You’ll usually find around four flower varieties, though sometimes that means different takes on the same bloom (like two types of chrysanthemums in different colours or shapes). The mix changes weekly, depending on what’s growing well and what’s in surplus. Your first box also includes flower food, a handy how-to-arrange guide, and a warm welcome to the world of Wonky Flowers.
